You Can't Help Who You Don't Love

I've always hated the phrase "You can't help who you love." What about the people you just can't love. Around the holidays you see all of these couples with plastic smiles and entwined hands walking around in public with no visible purpose. I blame these couples for comments that I receive from my mother and other family members. "Aw, someday, Jenny, that could be you." "When are you getting married?" "See, there is someone for everyone."
Well I say, you can't help who you don't love. I'm sorry that unlike the billions of people who attach themselves to meaningless/plentiful relationships during the holidays I prefer to be alone than to be with someone I have genuine feelings for.
I operate under the strict rule of never date someone that you're not intellectually attracted to. To some this might sound naive or unrealistic, but I don't see the point in forced laughter and empty kisses. If I don't want to be with anyone than I won't be with anyone - so stop worrying about it! When the one guy who succeeds in charming me instead of annoying me comes along, then I'll care about these questions, but until then: Just a let a girl be single.

The Boy/Girl Thing

The point by which "When Harry Met Sally" centers is the question of whether or not boys/girls can be friends. I don't think this is possible because it seems like it is impossible for a girl to hang out with "the guys" without being objectified and catagorized. I am a girl who likes scary movies, video games, sports, and Fear Factor grossness. It seems like all of these things are "guy things." In truth, I do not have many girl friends who share my interests; however, my guy friends just can't seem to hang out without getting the impression that I'm interested in them. This is so annoying.

The Boy/Girl Thing

Perhaps the theory in "When Harry Met Sally" is correct. Boys and girls cannot be just friends. I hold a few exceptions, but as a whole I agree with this statement. I blame this on the men. Why can't a girl just have fun hanging out with the guys before one of them asks her out? She didn't go there to get hit on, but to enjoy some stereotypically denoted boy things, such as: scary movies, video games, sports, and Fear Factor grossness. I guess it is too much to expect that boys can see a girl as "one of the guys." It makes it so much harder to have fun.

Parents these days!

What is the world coming to? The following is an occurence that happened quite awhile ago that has still go me fuming. When "300" came to the big screen some friends and I decided we would go and see it - we're always in for a good Spartan flick. Arriving at the theatres at 11:30pm for the 11:50pm showing I was shocked and disgusted to see a man dragging his very upset, very tired three year-old into the theatres with him. He kept telling her to stop crying and calm down! How could she possibly calm down when it is 11pm and she's not tucked safetly into her own bed?!
Then, as if this did not enrage me enough, I get into the theatre and sit next to two preteens who look like they're there alone. Then I figure out that thier authoritative figure is sitting behind them with a kid who could not have been more than 10. Within the first 20 minutes of the movie there is so much nudity that even I avert my embarrassed gaze. I averted it to the 10 year old who was staring wide eyed at the naked woman on the screen who is being "pleasured" in various different positions. Does the dad even attempt to cover the boy's eyes or speak to him in any way, NO!
The parents of these children should not be shocked when their sons becomes womanizers and their daughters don't come home at night.

News and Celebrities

Why is it that the news channels are all about their celebrity access? I realize that most of the world is "star struck" but could we please have a break from Ashley Simpson's nose job and Bradgelina? Here is what has always bothered me: why is it that shows like Good Morning America and the Today Show always have someone cover the Golden Globes? You can either watch the Golden Globes or not. Do we really need a recap? Also, when did the Golden Globes ever tell me the weather? And the Today Show certainly didn't show up to my high school prom. Why do we try to immortalize people in the entertainment industry? People are people and they are all just doing their jobs, like the news stations who should be doing their jobs by reporting the news.

Urban Legends

This is one of my many problems with poorly constructed "horror" movies. I know that it is all an act, but are we really suppose to believe that Rebecca Gayheart could put a noose around Joshua Jackson's neck and pull him on top of a car? Also, she was shot, fell out of two story window, crashed through a windshield, and landed in a river and looked perfect only a year later? Why don't these villians die honorably like an average human being? Not only was I not impressed but the scare factor was nonexistent.
